The workshop, Convergence of Dissemination & Implementation Research Methods and Embedded Pragmatic Trials, will provide an introduction to investigative opportunities for pragmatic clinical trials embedded in healthcare systems, along with strategies for conducting clinical trials that provide real-world evidence necessary to inform both practice and policy.

The workshop is being offered free to conference attendees but requires a separate registration. The workshop will provide strategies for integrating implementation research methods in the design and conduct of ePCTs. Speakers will share firsthand experiences and case studies from the NIH Collaboratory and the IMPACT Collaboratory.

The learning objectives of the workshop include:

  • To identify key areas of synergy between ePCTs and implementation research
  • To introduce attendees to the unique characteristics and challenges of designing, conducting, and implementing ePCTs within diverse healthcare systems, and to describe opportunities for integrating implementation research methods into ePCTs
  • To increase the capacity of health services researchers to address important clinical questions with ePCTs and implementation research methods

September 21, 2020: IMPACT Collaboratory Opens Application for 2022 Training Workshop

Logo for the NIA IMPACT CollaboratoryThe IMPACT Collaboratory is inviting applications from early- and mid-career researchers for its second annual training workshop, “Building Skills to Conduct Embedded Pragmatic Clinical Trials (ePCTs) Among People Living With Dementia (PLWD) and Their Care Partners.” A limited number of participants will be accepted to attend the event on January 26 and 27, 2022.

This virtual 1.5-day workshop will provide a foundation in practical aspects of designing and conducting ePCTs in Alzheimer disease and related dementias through a combination of panel discussions, small group sessions, and networking opportunities with experts in the field. Workshop modules will focus on integrating health equity into ePCTs, ethical considerations for ePCTs for PLWD and their care partners, and the challenges and opportunities related to conducting ePCTs with care partners of people living with dementia.

Read more about the event and how to apply.

The IMPACT Collaboratory is supported by a grant from the National Institute on Aging. Its mission is to advance care for persons with dementia and their caregivers in real-world settings by building national capacity to conduct pragmatic clinical trials that test interventions embedded in healthcare systems.

August 24, 2021: Trans-NIH Workshop Will Explore Methods for Whole Person Research

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) will lead a trans-NIH workshop on methodological approaches for whole person research. The workshop will focus on the methods needed for rigorous research on interconnected systems, multicomponent interventions, and multisystem or multiorgan outcomes.

Registration for this event is required.

Event: Methodological Approaches for Whole Person Research Workshop
Date and Time: September 29-30, 2021; 11:30 am-5:30 pm ET
Location: virtual

The new NCCIH strategic plan identifies 3 components of whole person research: (1) exploring the fundamental science of interconnected systems; (2) investigating multicomponent interventions or therapeutic systems; and (3) examining the impact of these interventions on multisystem or multiorgan outcomes.

The “Methodological Approaches for Whole Person Research” workshop will provide examples of research in these 3 areas from diverse fields. The workshop will also identify opportunities for this type of research in complementary and integrative health and discuss relevant study designs, statistical methods, and computational approaches.

Workshop collaborators include the National Institute on Aging, the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, the National Institute of Nursing Research, the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, the Fogarty International Center, the Office of Research on Women’s Health, the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research, the Office of Disease Prevention, and the Office of Nutrition Research within the NIH Office of the Director.

Read more about this workshop on the NCCIH events page. Free registration is required, and the workshop will be videocast and archived for future viewing.
