July 12, 2023: In This Week’s PCT Grand Rounds, Lessons From the COORDINATE-Diabetes Trial

In this Friday’s PCT Grand Rounds, Christopher Granger and Neha Pagidipati of Duke University will present “Lessons From the COORDINATE-Diabetes Trial.”

The Grand Rounds session will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023, at 1:00 pm eastern.

The Coordinating Cardiology Clinics Randomized Trial of Interventions to Improve Outcomes (COORDINATE)–Diabetes was a cluster randomized trial assessing the effect of a multifaceted intervention of assessment, education, and feedback on the proportion of adults with type 2 diabetes and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease receiving recommended, evidence-based therapies.

Dr. Granger is the Donald F. Fortin, MD, Distinguished Professor of Medicine and a professor of nursing, and Dr. Pagidipati is an associate professor of medicine—both at Duke University.

July 5, 2023: This Week’s PCT Grand Rounds to Highlight IMPLEMENT-HF Study

In this Friday’s PCT Grand Rounds, Ankeet Bhatt of the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research will present “Implementing Virtual Strategies Across an Integrated Healthcare System: The IMPLEMENT-HF Study.”

Dr. Bhatt is an associate physician at the Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center and a research scientist at the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research. The IMPLEMENT-HF study tested the implementation of a virtual care team guided strategy to optimize guideline-directed medical therapy for hospitalized patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

June 21, 2023: Results of ICD-Pieces to Be Presented in This Week’s PCT Grand Rounds

Headshots of Dr. Miguel Vazquez and Dr. George "Holt" OliverIn this Friday’s PCT Grand Rounds, Miguel Vazquez of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and George “Holt” Oliver of the Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation will present “Improving Delivery of Care for Chronic Kidney Disease, Diabetes, and Hypertension,” including results from the ICD-Pieces NIH Collaboratory Trial.

The Grand Rounds session will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 1:00 pm eastern.

ICD-Pieces, an NIH Collaboratory Trial, used a novel information technology platform to identify patients with concurrent chronic kidney disease, diabetes, and hypertension and deliver evidence-based interventions to improve patient outcomes. The study is supported within the NIH Collaboratory under an award from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

Dr. Vazquez is a professor of internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Dr. Oliver is vice president of clinical informatics at the Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation.

June 14, 2023: BeatPain Utah Pragmatic Trial Featured in This Friday’s PCT Grand Rounds

The Grand Rounds session will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 1:00 pm eastern.

BeatPain Utah, an NIH Collaboratory Trials, is studying real-world implementation of a telehealth physical therapy strategy for patients with chronic back pain in primary care clinics of federally qualified health centers. The study is supported by the NIH through the NIH Heal Initiative under an award from the National Institute of Nursing Research.

Dr. Fritz is a distinguished professor of physical therapy and athletic training and Dr. Del Fiol is a professor of biomedical informatics—both at the University of Utah.

May 31, 2023: PROACT Xa Pragmatic Trial to Be Featured in This Week’s PCT Grand Rounds

In this Friday’s PCT Grand Rounds, John Alexander of Duke University will present “PROACT Xa and the Wizard of Oz: Behind the Curtain of a Pragmatic Decentralized Clinical Trial.” The Grand Rounds session will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 1:00 pm eastern.

PROACT Xa was a prospective, randomized clinical trial conducted to determine whether apixaban was noninferior to warfarin in preventing valve thrombosis or valve-related thromboembolism in patients with an On-X mechanical aortic valve. The trial’s pragmatic design features enabled the investigators to conduct the the trial successfully during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Dr. Alexander is a cardiologist and professor of medicine in the Duke University School of Medicine and a faculty member in the Duke Clinical Research Institute.

May 10, 2023: In This Week’s PCT Grand Rounds, a Pragmatic Trial of the COACH Blood Pressure Self-Management App

Dr. Koopman is professor and vice chair for research and faculty affairs in family and community medicine and the Jack M. and Winifred S. Colwill Endowed Professor at the University of Missouri. The Collaboration-Oriented Approach to Controlling High Blood Pressure (COACH) is a patient-facing clinical decision support app that assists patients in self-management of high blood pressure.

Dr. Denny is the chief executive officer of the All of Us Research Program, which is building a diverse database that can inform thousands of studies on a variety of health conditions.

Dr. Garg is a professor of medicine, epidemiology, and biostatistics and the associate dean for clinical research in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. The MyTEMP trial is the first large, randomized trial to assess the effects of cooler dialysis fluid temperature on patient outcomes.
