The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) published a funding opportunity for research to improve health outcomes and advance health equity in rural populations.

Rural populations experience high rates of many causes of morbidity and disability, and high and increasing rates of premature death. Meaningful and sustained improvements in the health of rural populations require effective solutions to address the underlying causes.

July 31, 2023: NIH Announces Funding Opportunity for Pain Management Collaboratory Pragmatic Trials

The NIH this month published notice of a funding opportunity to support the next round of pragmatic clinical trials within the NIH-DoD-VA Pain Management Collaboratory (PMC).

The PMC was established in 2017 with an initial cohort of 11 pragmatic trials. The new funding opportunity leverages the experience, expertise, and leadership of the PMC Coordinating Center with a new round of pragmatic trials evaluating nonpharmacologic solutions to address pain and comorbid conditions in veterans, United States Armed Forces service members, and their families.

The NIH Institutes participating in this funding opportunity include the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) and the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR). Applications may be cofunded by the Office of Disease Prevention (ODP) and the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR).

October 17, 2022: NINR to Host Webinar for NIH HEAL Initiative Funding Opportunity

NINR logoThe National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) will host a webinar for its recent request for applications, “RFA-NR-23-001, HEAL Initiative: Prevention and Management of Chronic Pain in Rural Populations (UG3/UH3 Clinical Trial Required).” The webinar will describe key features of the funding opportunity, review the interests of participating Institutes and Centers, and address questions from potential applicants.

The NIH HEAL Initiative℠, or Helping to End Addiction Long-Term Initiative℠, previously announced this new funding opportunity for cooperative research that will accelerate implementation of nonopioid interventions for chronic pain management in rural and remote populations. The initiative will support pragmatic, implementation, and hybrid effectiveness-implementation trials that study strategies for equitably and efficiently implementing effective interventions and evidence-based pain management guidelines in rural and remote communities.

The webinar is optional and not required for application submission. Preregistration is require. Participants are encouraged to submit their questions in advance of the webinar to NINRProgram@nih.gov.
