February 5, 2025: Improving Symptom Control in Pediatric Cancer Patients, in This Week’s PCT Grand Rounds

In this Friday’s PCT Grand Rounds, Lillian Sung of the Hospital for Sick Children will present “Improving Symptom Control in Pediatric Cancer Patients With SSPedi and SPARK.”

The Grand Rounds session will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 1:00 pm eastern.

The Symptom Screening in Pediatrics Tool (SSPedi) is a validated approach to measuring bothersome symptoms in pediatric patients receiving cancer treatments. SPARK is a web-based application that builds on SSPedi and consists of a symptom screening component and clinical practice guidelines.

Sung is the Canada Research Chair in Paediatric Oncology Supportive Care and the chief clinical data scientist at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and a professor of pediatrics at the University of Toronto.

January 29, 2025: Early Lessons From ARBOR-Telehealth, an NIH Collaboratory Trial, in This Week’s PCT Grand Rounds

ARBOR-Telehealth, an NIH Collaboratory Trial, is evaluating the use of a telehealth physical therapy strategy for patients who present to primary care clinics with low back pain in rural communities. Skolasky is a professor of orthopaedic surgery and the director of the Spine Outcomes Research Center, and McLaughlin is an assistant professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation—both at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

FM-TIPS, an NIH Collaboratory Trial, is examining whether the addition of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation to routine physical therapy improves movement-evoked pain compared with physical therapy alone among patients with fibromyalgia. Reisinger is an associate professor of internal medicine and the associate director of engagement, integration, and implementation in the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science; and Dailey is an assistant research scientist in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science—both in the University of Iowa’s Carver College of Medicine.
