November 3, 2026: Main Outcomes From the NOHARM Trial, in This Week’s Rethinking Clinical Trials Grand Rounds

In this Friday’s Rethinking Clinical Trials Grand Rounds, Andrea Cheville and Jon Tilburt will present the main outcomes of the NOHARM trial, “Boosting Peri-Operative Pain Care: Mixed Results (and Myriad Implications) From the NOHARM Pragmatic Trial.” Congratulations to Drs. Cheville and Tilburt and the entire NOHARM study team!

The Grand Rounds session will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 1:00 pm eastern.

NOHARM, an NIH Collaboratory Trial, was a cluster randomized trial conducted in 6 high-volume surgical centers in Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The EHR-based intervention included an educational guide for patients about nondrug pain care modalities, clinical decision support prompting clinicians to reinforce patients’ nondrug pain care choices, and a collection of educational and self-management resources. The components of the intervention were delivered at multiple points along the perioperative care continuum.

Cheville is a physiatrist and a professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic. Tilburt is an internist and a professor of medicine and bioethics, also at Mayo Clinic.
