|Health plan/health system description||A health services and innovation company, Optum collaborates with partners across the health system to leverage leading data, analytics and expertise to directly improve clinical care.
Optum’s core administrative claims data include enrollment information; medical (facility, physician) and pharmacy claims, from more than 180 million people captured since 1993. The data derive from commercial health plans and Medicare Advantage programs. Optum’s other data assets include a patient-level clinical database that integrates electronic health record (EHR) data with claims, prescription, and practice management data. The database includes relevant clinical data on over 85 million lives from both ambulatory and inpatient medical records (e.g., weight, body mass index, blood pressure, smoking status), laboratory results, and drug prescriptions, as recorded during routine clinical practice. Optum’s EHR database also contains information from physician, pathology and radiology notes, as well as other clinical notes, which supplement the data collected in structured fields of the electronic medical records used by contributing providers. These data can be linked to: diagnostic laboratory testing results; socioeconomic status data; mortality data; medical chart data; patient and physician survey responses; inpatient detail-level data; benefit design information; long-term and short-term disability records; disease-specific registries (e.g., oncology); and/or health risk assessments.
Currently, the Optum data within the NIH Collaboratory Distributed Research Network is comprised of enrollment, and medical and pharmacy claims data on commercially insured members with medical or pharmacy coverage from 2008 onward.
